While the Indianapolis 500 has come and gone for 2016, there are plenty of activities still planned for the year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Arguably the second biggest event of the year, the annual NASCAR race, is scheduled for Sunday, July 24th, in 2016. While the race itself occurs on Sunday, there are plenty of other events that take place at the track on the 22nd and 23rd.

Friday Events

On Friday, July 22nd, the public gates at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway open at 8:00am. Friday is mainly a practice day. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Midway will be open all day until the track closes at 6:00pm. Practices start at noon and alternate between the XFINITY Series and Sprint Cup Series cars. XFINITY Series cars practice between noon and 1:25pm and again between 3:00pm and 3:55pm. The Sprint Cup Series cars practice between 1:30pm and 2:55pm and again between 4:00pm and 5:25pm.

Saturday Events

While Friday focuses on practicing, Saturday’s events have more variety. The gates at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway open at 7:00am, and the track closes after the night concert. Primarily in the morning, there are autograph sessions featuring both Sprint Cup Series and XFINITY Series drivers. Qualifying for the XFINITY Series race occurs between 11:30am and 1:00pm, while qualifying for the Spring Cup Series starts at 1:30pm and ends at 2:45pm. Driver introductions for the Lilly Diabetes 250, the main series of events for the day, start at 3:00pm. There are two heat races, which are 20 laps each. The first one starts at 3:30pm, and the second heat race starts at 4:25pm. The feature race, which is 60 laps, starts at 5:05pm. To finish off the day, Parmalee will perform at 7:00pm. Afterwards, Kid Rock takes the stage at 8:00pm.

Race Day

Sunday is the premier day of the weekend. The gates at the track do not open until 10:00am. After the gates open, visitors can immediately head to the Midway which is open until 3:00pm. At 2:05pm, many of the pre-race festivities begin. Military servicemen and servicewomen will parade around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Drivers are introduced shortly afterwards at 2:30pm. The Presentation of Colors, the Invocation and the National Anthem will all occur before 2:45pm, and the drivers will start their engines at approximately 2:48pm. The race itself, the Crown Royal 400, starts at 3:00pm. This will be the 23rd running of this race, and it is exactly 160 laps. Following the race, the gates close at 6:00pm, and the weekend’s public festivities officially come to a close.

Tickets

Tickets for Sunday’s events start at $40.00, while reserved seat tickets start at $51.00. Racegoers can also consider the general admission three-day pass. It is just $67.00. There are parking passes also available, and they start as low at $10.00. Tickets and parking passes can be purchased on the Indianapolis Motors Speedway’s website.
