In recent years, several great microbreweries have opened in Indiana. While it is certainly most connected with Bloomington, Upland has made a real splash in the Greater Indianapolis area. In fact, this microbrewery has two locations in the area. One location, a fully equipped restaurant is in Carmel. The other, a tasting room, is in Broad Ripple.

Carmel Tap House

Starting on November 7th of this year, the Upland’s Carmel Tap House will unfortunately be closed for renovations and upgrades. Northsiders should try to head over to the Tap House for one last meal before it closes for the winter. When the Tap House is open, it has 10 rotating draft beers, a cozy outdoor deck and a bar area for adults at least 21 years of age. In house, guests can purchase 12 ounces, 16 ounces or pitchers of Upland’s fantastic draft beer. Beer can also be carried out every day of the week except Sundays. For food, the Carmel Tap House closely follows the formula that has made the Bloomington Upland brewery so successful. The menu is regularly changed to reflect the time of the year. Locally grown ingredients are used as often as possible in the Carmel Tap House’s dishes. Guests rave about the buffalo burgers, the nachos, the tenderloin sandwich and the mac n’ cheese. While it will be closed for a few months this winter, the Carmel Tap House is normally open every single day of the week. Mondays through Thursdays, it is open between 11:00am and midnight. On Fridays and Saturdays, this Upland location opens again at 11:00am. However, it stays open an extra hour, closing at 1:00am. On Sundays, it is open between noon and midnight. The Carmel Tap House is located at 820 East 116th Street in Carmel, Indiana.

Broad Ripple Tasting Room

While the Carmel Tap House is closed for the winter, Northsiders should consider trekking down to the Broad Ripple Tasting Room located on North College Avenue. While this location does serve beer, it does not have any food available for purchase. This location is exclusively a tasting room, meaning patrons must be at least 21 years of age. Like the Carmel Tap House, carryout beer is available every day of the week except Sundays. The Broad Ripple Tasting Room stands out because it has kegs available for purchase. However, patrons must call at least a week in Advance to reserve one. The Broad Ripple Tasting Room is open between 4:00pm and 10:00pm Sundays through Thursdays. On Fridays and Saturdays, it opens at noon and closes at midnight.
